A Bakers Dozen of Mini Pies

Today’s post is brought you by Foodie.com and it’s all about pie in celebration of Pi Day. Yeah for pie!

I’m sure that you’ve heard the famous quote from Marie Antoinette “Let them eat cake.” You know what, I agree. Let everyone else eat cake. I’ll take a pie! When Foodie.com asked if I wanted to create a collection of pies, of course I said yes. Who says no to pie? No one, that’s who.

There are so many different types of pies that I it took me a while to decide what type of collection I would make. Pizza pie immediately came to mind since I love me some pizza. Fruit pie? Nope, that’s too ordinary. I wanted something special. After a little thought I remembered that I’ve been wanting to make hand pies for a while. When I was younger I made tartletts for my dad, they were his favorite. The dough was a bit heavy but they were filled with delicious apple butter. Now that I’m older I know more about baking and can hopefully create the perfect little hand pies for my own family to enjoy.

So, what’s so great about hand pies? Well, I think they are a perfect dessert. You can enjoy the delicious goodness of a whole pie all wrapped up in a convenient little package. Also, everyone can have their own pie after dinner! There’s no sharing, no one gets a bigger piece of the pie. Everyone can enjoy their own individual, made for just them pie. Plus, the mini version of anything is always adorable. You know you agree, don’t deny it.

When we were kids my parents would take us to Marie Calendars for dinner every once in a while. With six kids in our family, we didn’t eat out often so this was a special occasion. Every time we would go, we brought home a pie. Sometimes it was seasonal fruits, but my absolute most favorite pie to get was the Sour Cream Blueberry Pie. Have you ever had it? It might sound weird, but if you have ever baked with blueberries then you know that sour cream is a common ingredient to accompany these lovely berries. Probably because they taste amazing together!

So, it sounds like my next big baking experiment is all planned out! My mission will be to create a mini hand pie version of the Sour Cream Blueberry Pie that I loved so much as a kid. Pi Day is March 14, so I better get started! What pie will you bake for Pi Day?
