Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Donuts

If you follow me on Instagram, then you undoubtedly have seen my Saturday morning breakfast pictures. I take requests from the kids for a special breakfast, most of the time they want waffles. But every now and then they ask for something else. A few weeks back they asked for donuts. I bought a donut pan months ago, used it once but the recipe wasn’t great. They turned out dry and it turned me off from wanting more. But since it was requested, I decided to give it another go-around. With a few adjustments, we found a recipe good enough to share here on my blog!

Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Donuts

Once the donuts are baked, I dipped them in melted butter and then in a cinnamon and sugar mixture. The first donut I made I dipped both sides in the sugar mix and it way too sweet, one side is enough!

These donuts were good plain also, I think that I’ll use this recipe as a base for future flavors. Just imagine all of the delicious possibilities!

 

Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Donuts

Baked Cinnamon and Sugar Donuts

Ingredients

  • 2 c all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 c brown sugar 
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/4 cup milk 
  • 2 T unsalted butter, melted 
  • 2 t vanilla extract
  • Topping: 
  • 1/2 c unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 c white sugar
  • 1/2 t cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray your pan with non-stick spray. 
  2. Mix all of your dry ingredients in a large bowl and set aside. Whisk together your wet ingredients in a small bowl and then add to the large bowl, stir until just combined. 
  3. Spoon your batter into the prepared pan, filling just about 3/4 of the way. 
  4. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. 
  5. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then remove from the pan. 
  6. Add your melted butter to a small bowl, and in another bowl mix the cinnamon and sugar. Dip each donut into the butter, then into the cinnamon and sugar mixture. Serve warm. 
  7. Makes 12 large donuts.
