Chocolate Candy Cane Fudge

The other day my husband asked me to pick him up a peppermint mocha while I was out, I forgot the mocha. But the idea did get me thinking. Those flavors would make great fudge! Last year I made fudge for friends and family in all different flavors and it only took me about 10 minutes to make it. Yes, that’s right – 10 minutes! And, the best part? I only used two ingredients – a can of frosting and a bag of chocolate chips. The first batch I made will always be my favorite. I used vanilla frosting and peanut butter chips. Yummm! This recipe here is a little more festive for the time of year. Enjoy!

Chocolate Candy Cane Fudge

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz can of chocolate frosting
  • 12 oz bag of chocolate chips
  • 3-4 candy canes

Directions:

  1. Line an 8×8 baking dish with foil and spray lightly with cooking spray.
  2. Put the candy canes into a Ziplock bag and crush with the bottom of a pan or with a rolling pin. Set aside.
  3. In the microwave, melt chocolate chips in a medium size bowl. Set the timer for 2 minutes and stir every 30 seconds until all the chocolate is melted.
  4. Once the chips are melted add the frosting and stir until both ingredients are mixed evenly.
  5. Carefully spread the mixture into the prepared pan. Use a spatula spoon for gently push the fudge evenly towards all sides.
  6. Sprinkle the broken candy cane bits over the fudge and gently press down on them so that they stick.
  7. Put the fudge in the fridge and let it set for 30 minutes.
  8. Once set, remove the fudge by lifting the foil up, remove the foil.
  9. Cut the fudge into pieces, or use a cookie cutter.
  10. Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

I have also made this recipe using Heath Bar bits instead of candy cane. And, as I mentioned above, you can mix and match different types of frosting and chips. My favorite is vanilla frosting with peanut butter chips. What flavor combo will you try?
