DIY Witch Hazel Facial Toner & Acne Reducer

Witch Hazel Facial Toner and Acne Reducer

During my journey to find DIY non-toxic recipes to add to my home and lifestyle, I learned about the health benefits of “Witch Hazel” (alcohol free). Although it has an unfriendly name, it is an affordable astringent and anti-inflammatory, that has amazing benefits!

Skin Care:

It is used in cosmetic lotions and creams to lighten the skin, remove excess oil and dirt, and tighten facial skin. It is helpful to treat acne, psoriasis, and eczema. In addition, it is used extensively in after-shave lotions to heal shaving cuts. It is a natural remedy for insect bites, sunburn, puffy eyes, and itchy skin.

Hemorrhoids and varicose veins:

The tannins, flavonoids, and resin present in witch hazel benefit painful varicose veins and hemorrhoids. The herb improves the constriction of blood vessels and its ability to reduce them to normal size. Topical application of witch hazel based creams is also advised for postnatal perineum tearing.

Respiratory tract infections:

A throat gargle of witch hazel and clove helps relieve sore throat pain and laryngitis.

Digestive complaints:

Witch Hazel tea treats dysentery, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. The active ingredient catechol is responsible for this health benefit. Mucus discharge and colitis may also improve from the internal use of witch hazel.

Swelling, infections, and bruises:

Available as medicated pads, tinctures, alcohol extracts, creams, and teas, witch hazel is great for reducing swelling and traumatic bruises.

Thank you so much for this recipe! I am going to try it tonight! I am going to be using it for toning, as well as to control acne. Do you have any experience or advice on this recipes usage in this area? Thanks once again!

    HI Krys,

I use this “potion” at night like a toner before bed, and for specific acne spots I put Melaleuca (a.k.a Tea Tree) oil directly on the break out area. This can be done throughout the day/as often as you’d like. If you would like me to mail you a sample of DoTerra’s Certified Pure Eseential oil (no alcohol or fillers) to try, please feel free to email me-Lmksmom@yahoo.com

    Happy Oiling!
