Power Their Dreams - My Future Olympian

Last year my husband and I noticed that our oldest son, Parker, had so much energy and was often frustrated and restless when he was at home. We decided to get him involved in a sport and asked him what he liked to do best  during PE. We expected him to say soccer, or maybe basketball but he said running. Now, I am not a runner by any means and I didn’t know if youth running clubs existed! I had never seen flier or signs for youth track and field so I looked online. Sure enough, they do exist! But the few that I found has a  minimum age requirement of 6 years old, and Parker was only 5. However, fate was on our side and not even a week after my search I received an email from the local YMCA announcing their upcoming track season, and the minimum age was 5 years! We signing up immediately.

The program was after school, they practiced one day each week and participated in two track meets during the season against other schools. I was apprehensive about Parker participating in a sports program, but he loved it! In the program, they learned how to participate in all of the track and field events. I was certain, even though he said he loved to run,  that he would want to move forward with the long jump event because he seemed to have so much fun practicing for it. But after the first track meet, I asked him what his favorite event was and he said running – every one of the running events. I have to admit, I was still baffled. As a non-runner, I don’t get it. BUT, I 100% support it. Now that he is six years old, he can join our the more advance track clubs.

We have been watching the Olympic Games and Parker has loved watching the Track & Field events. Have you seen Allyson Felix race? She runs the 400 meter race, which is about a 1/4 of a mile, in 49 seconds! Parker has been amazed at the speed of all the athletes and hopes to one day be just as fast. Who knows, maybe we will see him racing in the Olympic Games one day! I’m sure that Parker is not the only child watching the Olympic Games with a dream to someday join Team USA.

Olympic Games PG Brands

I’ve written several posts about the Procter & Gamble products that I purchase regularly, but I didn’t know that by making these purchases I was supporting future Olympians. P&G supports Team USA as well as youth sports programs all over.  Their featured product for Track &  Field is Bounty® Select-A-Size®, an item we already use in our home! Bounty® Select-A-Size® is quick to absorb messes, so you can clean up and move on without wasting time or towels. It allows you to choose the size of the sheet you need for the different sizes of messes.

You can shop for all of the P&G products to support current and future Olympians at Walmart!
