How to Get Kids Excited About Reading

How to Get Kids Excited About Reading

It’s sometimes hit and miss when it comes to kids getting excited about the reading process. That’s why it’s important to take the time to get kids excited about reading and here are some tips to help you out.

More Animation Please

If you’re going to read to your child, use animation. It can get boring hearing someone read in a monotone voice. Take the time to use animation when you read and this will help get your child excited. Adding noises and inflictions in your voice are two ways you can add animation to your reading.

Reading Corner

If you’ve never experienced the fun of a reading corner, you’re missing out. Adding a reading corner for your child in your home is one way to get them excited about reading. You can make the reading corner out of old pillows and a shower curtain. The important parts of the reading corner are the books. Make sure you add a variety of books to the learning corner.

Read Often

Reading isn’t something that’s limited to one day a week. Reading is limitless, which means you can read anytime of the day. Don’t place any limits on reading to your child and you might be surprised on how well they pick up on it. Reading should always be pressure free and fun. Also, make sure you start reading to your child early. You can start reading as early as when they are in the womb.

Reread Books

Books don’t need to be thrown on the floor after they are read for the first time. Get that book out often and reread it. The repetition in rereading helps children learn how to read. Children really rely on their parents to help them with this at a young age because they can’t physically reread books themselves. Parents need to stay accountable with rereading books to their child.

Don’t forget that the kiddos are watching mom and dad too. If you love reading, then that passion will be passed down to them.
