Sea World San Diego Family Trip

Last weekend my husband randomly asked if we wanted to go to Sea World. It was 8:30am and I was still in my jammies, but I agreed. Why not, right? I had been several times as a kid and we have only taken out oldest daughter once when she was very young. I checked online to buy and print tickets. From now until 10/31/2013 kids 3-9 years old are free when you purchase an adult ticket. For our family of 5 we only paid $158.00 when normally it would have been $300.00!

With tickets in hand, we packed up our bag, got in the car and were on our way! Sea World San Diego is about 1 1/2 hours from our house so I was prepared with snacks for the kids but the drive down provided an ocean view that was captivating. The kids just stared out the window the whole time, it was a dream! Once inside the park it all came back to me – the rides, the shows, the animals. I couldn’t wait to see everything!

We started at the Killer Whale tank and were lucky to see the whales practicing with the trainers. They were beautiful! We even got to see the baby whale swimming around with his mom. Unfortunately Dining With Shamu was sold out for the day so we weren’t able to do that, but it’s on our list for next time. Next we went to have lunch at Shipwreck Reef Cafe and while Dad was getting our meal we sat at a table right next to the Sea Turtles. The kids love that, it kept them entertained until the food arrived. After lunch we watched the Shamu Rocks Show. The stadium was much bigger than I remembered. We weren’t able to sit in the splash zone but we did have a good time all the same.

After Shamu we went to the Tide Pools where we were able to pet Star Fish and then moved on to the Bat Ray Feeding. Our next two stops were my favorites – Flamingos then the Sea Lion and Otter Show! I have loved this show ever since I was a kid. It’s the one thing I look forward to every time we come. Our last stop was touring through the Shark Encounter, then on to Turtle Reef.

By this time we were done for the day. We have spent a good six hours in the park and seen so many great attractions but it was hot day and we were all tired. The ride home was very quiet, which is always a sign of a good time!
