DIY Halloween Accessory: Googly Eyes Headband

DIY Halloween Accessory: Googly Eyes Headband

A few days ago my son came home with a monster he made in class from scrap paper and he was so proud to show me that he put 14 eyes on it! I thought it was hilarious, kids love googly eyes. He shook the paper and all of the eyes went rolling back and forth. This made me want to add a googly eye tutorial of some sort to my list of Halloween posts. I bought a pack of headbands from Dollar Tree to make cat ears for a Halloween costume, so I thought it would be fun to add some googly eyes to one of them.

Materials:

  • Assorted sizes of googly eyes
  • Black felt
  • Headband
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Optional: Black ribbon

Instructions:

Arrange your googly eyes on a piece of black felt, then hot glue them to the felt.

Trim excess felt from around the eyes. I found it best to use a very small pair of scissors to get those tiny corners around the eyes. If you want to cover your headband this is a good time to do so. Just wrap the headband in black ribbon and glue down the ends.

Next, hold your googly eye piece over the top of the headband and cut another piece of felt to cover the underside.

Sandwich both pieces over the headband and glue together.

That’s it! This takes just a few minutes to make, the longest part for me was arranging the eyes to look just right. This headband can be worn as a Halloween accessory or as part of a costume for maybe a monster or alien.
