Health Benefits of Common Kitchen Herbs

There are several herbs that we grow here at home, mostly to save money but also for convenience. But did you know that along with tasting great, there are several kitchen herbs that are also very good for you? I did some research on a few of the herbs that I use frequently and grow at home.Health Benefits of Common Kitchen HerbsBasil: Just a few teaspoons of this herb can provide you with 5% of your daily requirement of Magnesium which is a mineral that helps the body maintain muscle and nerve function. It also helps with heart function, keeps bones strong and supports a healthy immune system.

Dill: I use this yummy herb in my tuna and also in dipping sauces for fish. It helps the body maintain healthy cholesterol levels, relieves indigestion and has been known to fight insomnia.

Rosemary: This herb is most commonly used in Italian cooking,  but did you know that it has been known to help reduce the risk of cancer? It also improves memory, has anti-inflammatory properties, aids in digestion and is an immune booster. The smell of rosemary also has benefits! It can be used as a mood enhancer or to relieve a migraine.

Parsley: Just 2 teaspoons of dried parsley can provide 150 % of your daily vitamin K requirements, which is important for bone health and blood clotting. It also contains vitamins A and C.

Cilantro: In addition to tasting yummy on tacos, cilantro also promotes healthy digestion, improves sleep quality, lower blood sugar and has anti-inflammatory properties.

Thyme: Add 2 teaspoons of this herb to your sauce or soup and you’ll get nearly 20% of your daily iron needs, which explains why it is used to battle chronic fatigue. It also can be used to relieve indigestion or soothe a cough or sore throat when made as a tea.

Isn’t it just amazing that these little plants can do so much for our bodies? I can’t wait to do more research and find out what other herbs out there can benefit my health!
