Science Mill Kids Museum, Johnson City TX

One of our favorite places to go to are science museums. My kids love to learn through hands-on play so when I was invited to visit the Science Mill I jumped at the invitation. With over 50 exhibits, I knew that we would have a great time, and we did!

At the Science Mill, we’re all about discovery, creativity and hands-on learning. We’ve searched far and wide to deliver the most innovative and powerfully playful exhibits to our community. Indulge your curiosity as you jump into the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math.

Visitors are free to explore the 50+ exhibits at their own pace so that everyone will have a unique experience, creating their own Science Mill journey. However, if you do need assistance there are several highly trained Explainers positioned around the museum to answer your questions. We learned a lot just by doing, but also by listening to Explainers. As most kids do, my kids had tons of questions and they were patient and informative.

NEW Aquaponics Greenhouse

We were able to preview their newest addition: a 1,000-square-foot
Aquaponics Greenhouse. In this new exhibit, visitors can walk into a working aquaponics system where they can see how fish, plants, and microbes work together to create healthy food. They will discover how tilapia, prawns, koi and snapping turtles provide the food to grow fruit, vegetables, and tropical plants in vertical growing tubes, floating rafts and in a giant living wall. This unique ecosystem represents the technology, beauty, practicality, and science for sustainable agriculture and healthy eating. It was truly amazing! My kids now want to make one of their own at home. I’m not sure that will happen, but we can always come back to the Science Mill to see how the plants and fish are growing!
