Our Favorite Snacks for Outdoor Adventures

Exploring in the great outdoors has been a favorite past time of ours for many years. Whether we’re camping, hiking, or just plain exploring in our local and state parks we always have a good time! When planning a day trip it’s important to pack your bags with lots of snacks that will provide the energy to keep you going throughout your day. Typically we try to avoid any food or snacks that need to be kept cold. This eliminates the need to pack ice packs or a cooler. Here are a few of our favorite snacks that we like to bring on our adventures!

5 Snacks to Take Hiking with Kids

Granola – Bars, clusters, or loose granola can keep you full and provide energy. I try to stay away from bringing granola bars with chocolate chips, or anything else that could melt and make a mess. Stick to the fruits and nuts type of granola.

Beef JerkyJack Links Original Beef Jerky and Teriyaki Beef Jerky are always a favorite of ours. It’s non-perishable and is available in many flavors – Jalapeno, Peppered, & Buffalo are only a few. It’s packed with protein and is a quick way to refuel while you’re on the go. Also, the Jack Links 2.85oz bag fits perfectly in your backpack!

5 Snacks to Take Hiking with Kids

Dried Fruit – This sweet treat can contain a high amount of sugar and calories, which is not ideal for everyday but when you need a boost of energy during a long hike dried fruit can be a great choice. Plus, it’s compact and can be easily packed.

Nuts & Seeds – Almonds, sunflower seeds, pepitas, and walnuts are a few of our favorites. They are easy to eat along the trail and are enjoyable plain or seasoned.

Pretzels – I prefer to bring pretzels rather than crackers because they are less likely to crumble inside your backpack and make a mess. They are also more filling than crackers, in my opinion.

Along with your snacks be sure to pack enough water for everyone. I like to carry a hydration pack instead of water bottles because it’s easier to carry and most packs also have pockets and compartments to hold all of your other belongings and snacks. These backpacks are available in both adult and children’s sizes so everyone can have their own pack.
