We’re on the move.

This summer I haven’t written too many blog posts. I haven’t been very active on social media either. But, there’s a good reason – I’ve been busy. Unfortunately, it isn’t the kind of busy that takes you to the beach or on a grand adventure. I’ve been packing. And packing. And packing. I didn’t want to write about it until it was official, I thought I might *jinx* our chances of it all happening. But now it is official. The papers are signed, the truck has been rented. My family and I are moving from California to Texas!

For years I’ve been trying to convince my husband to move out of California. But he came here from Michigan and loved the year-round sunshine and sandy beaches of the West Coast. However, over the years the cost of living here has overshadowed the beautiful scenery. With three kids, and even with two incomes, no amount of cost-cutting efforts or frugal living was going to get us where we wanted to be. We want to travel and enjoy our days without worrying about paying bills. We want to live in a place where our hard earned money will go farther, and we’re hoping that Texas is that place.

Other Things May Change But We Start and End with Family

We decided on a city just outside of San Antonio. My sister and her family have lived there for over two years and have loved every day. There are so many parks and outdoor adventures to embark on. I hear there’s a lazy river we can take out inner tubes on and just float all day. There’s also a zoo, museums, caverns, Sea World, Six Flags, and so much more. Plus, lots and lots of history.

While leaving California will be hard, I know it’s the right thing to do. I’ve lived here my entire life, in the same county. I know every street and shopping center. I know where the hidden trails are and the secret pathways to the beaches. I grew up driving down the 5 freeway when either side had nothing by orange groves. I went to concerts are Irvine Meadows and spent my summers are Wild Rivers. I’ve been here through earthquakes and El Nino. I went to grade school, high school, and college here. And a piece of me will always be here.

The number of days until we leave are few. But the adventures we have ahead of us are great. No matter where we are the most important thing is that we are together as a family!
